Albino Piona

It is not easy to give character, depth and class to wines whose distinctive traits are lightness and fragrance, but the direction taken in recent years by the Piona family is clearly the right one. Their strength lies in almost 80 hectares of their own land on morainic hills to the south of Lake Garda, and in the clear vision of Silvio, able to involve his siblings Monica, Alessandro and Massimo in this project. The grapes are dedicated to the historic DOC wines of Custoza and Bardolino, and are vinified in the functional winery at Via Bellavista. The growth in quality of the Piona brothers` winery continues unabated, especially as far as regards the territory´s iconic wines, Bardolino and Custoza, which they interpret with elegance and sense of tradition.

Bardolino

The Classico zone, the original vineyard area for Bardolino is the hillsides around the town of Bardolino and nearby villages located on the eastern shores of beautiful Lake Garda, Italy´s largest lake.
Grapes from this area make Bardolino at its best: a light-bodied, pale-ruby, delicate wine, with lively aromas and flavors reminiscent of cherries, a slightly tart aftertaste, and a perfect balance of acidity.
The four main grape varieties that make up Bardolino, all native to Verona, are Corvina (35 to 65 percent), Rondinella (10 to 40 percent), Molinara (10 to 20 percent) and Negrara (up to 10 percent); Corvina is the finest of the four; the best Bardolino wines use high percentages of Corvina.
