NotesNOTEWORTHY: The bottle itself is a piece of art with a design from Annabelle Dickert on the label. At Podere La Villa, the yield-per-hectare is very low, far lower than the maximum level allowed by Chianti Classico DOCG rules, which enhances the concentration of aromas and flavors. Winery Overview – Podere La Villa, located in the Tuscany region of Italy, is a small estate owned by Ilaria Tachis. In the 2010s, Podere La Villa established a presence in the international wine market selling most of its production in the Far East. Critics have rewarded its quality and consistency so far. Of particular note has been its Pargolo, which is found on the wine lists of most of the local Tuscan restaurants.

Location of Vineyards – Located in the Chianti Classico commune of San Casciano Val di Pesa (FI), this winery is one of the best examples of tradition in the area. The winery’s owner, Ilaria Tachis, is much obliged to agronomist Valerio Barbieri, and his young and talented daughter, Enologist Elisabetta Barbieri and also to Cellar Master Markus Von Planitz whose assistance was fundamental to the making of this wine.

Winemaking Process – The grapes are selected and harvested by hand over the course of a single day (one day for Merlot, one day for Sangiovese), and placed in perforated boxes. Long maceration of the marc of 21 days. The first fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and lasts10 days. Ageing in wood begins immediately after the malolactic fermentation. Next, the wine is poured into French oak barriques. Here it rests for about 18 months.
