Montefalco Sagrantino 2011, Napolini

The name Sagrantino is a general term for “sacred” derived from ancient liturgy; today this varietal can be found almost exclusively in the Umbrian territory of Montefalco. After many decades of appearing only in tired, dark, sweet wines, Sagrantino has been adapted in new ways for both dry and sweet wines. This wine’s new velvety, full-bodied character is the result of careful vinification techniques and patient aging in wood. Longlasting with tannins that are powerful but controlled, it has a strong personality all its own.
